A Baja Bug is one of the best small city cars I've ever driven, if not the best. Light, small, no turbo lag, lots of visibility, all things you want in a responsive city car. Either Raphael's bug is in worse shape than I thought, or Mr. Regular isn't accustomed to a car with manual brakes and manual steering. Probably more of the latter. Hopefully The Roman can set him straight.

I don't think the car was the issue at all, its that damn NYC!

I was especially impressed with VW's ability to dial back the discernible effects of turbo lag on those engines - it makes for a great driving experience.

That's the power of German engineering

I don't think the type of car would matter. Some people just get freaked out driving in cities. I'm sure driving something that functioned slightly different than he is used to didn't help.

I think it was the combination sloppy shifter/driving in NYC in the dark. I know I hate driving ANYTHING in the city, and the biggest city I've ever driven in is Chicago. Being from the Middle Of Nowhere, PA, Mr. Regular probably gets as much big city street drive time as me.

Once you get accustomed to the smell it's a piece of cake- chalk it up to dealing with noxious gases as much as city driving.

Or Mr Regular isn't accustomed to New York, which is the most impossible place in the country to drive. And this is coming from someone who lives in Massachusetts.
